You’ll explore the basics of chemistry without the heavy maths or complicated theory, making it suitable for anyone, regardless of previous experience. ​ From understanding atoms and the periodic table to discovering why atoms bond, how acids and bases work, and why water behaves in unusual ways, each topic connects chemistry to real-life experiences. You’ll explore the science behind cooking and cleaning, including why bread rises, why onions make us cry and how soap actually cleans. The course will also look at chemistry in the wider world, including batteries, medicines, CO₂ and climate change, as well as other topical areas.
