This course will look at the book and at the changing socio-political world of Edwardian Dublin, with the seeds of an incipient change hard on the heels of people going about their daily lives, then and now. The following pertinent questions can be looked at during the course: Would James Joyce recognize the city of Dublin today, and what would he make of its' characters? How does the text address race, religion and nation in ways to which we can relate? What can Molly’s soliloquy tell us about the state of women in modern day Ireland?
